Boys In The Trees is a rites of passage buddy film about two teenage outcasts searching for their pack. When Corey, a teen skater, who feels trapped by his moronic friends and unable to communicate with his widowed father, goes off on his own on Halloween night, 1997, he encounters Jonah, a former childhood friend and now nemesis. He begrudgingly agrees to walk Jonah home after he causes him to fall off his skateboard. What starts off as a normal walk through empty suburban streets descends into something darker and magical as they tell each other ghost stories, drawing upon their fears of the world around them. As they walk through their memories and ghosts of the past, Corey is surprised to discover how much he still has in common with his abandoned friend. But just as their friendship appears rekindled, a tragic truth may mean he’s made his discovery all too late.

In September 2009 Sydney businessman Michael McGurk was executed in a professional hit on the driveway of his North Shore house. With a single shot to the head the property developer, doting father and generous Catholic parishioner was revealed as a violent loan shark, stand over merchant and extortionist who didn’t care who he cheated.
His murder may have gone unnoticed had it not lifted the lid on some of his darker ways of doing business Sydney-style. And those caught up in his web included high profile Labor identities, hell-bent property developers, a merchant bank and even the Sultan of Brunei. Fuelled by drugs and alcohol, McGurk tried to scam them all.
Based on Richard Vereker and Mark Abernethy’s well-known book, this is a compelling, fast-paced account of the life and public death of a well-known Sydney identity.

Emily Tempest. Small, black, snaky as a taipan’s tooth: the woman least likely to pursue a career in policing.

Something has drawn Emily back to Central Australia. To Moonlight Downs, the community she left a lifetime ago. Not much has changed; the barefoot kids are bush mechanics now but Emily still doesn’t know if she belongs in the Aboriginal world or the white.

And trouble still seems to follow her. Within hours of her arrival an old friend lies brutally murdered and mutilated, an old enemy the only suspect.

Based on Adrian Hyland’s award winning series.

Are you tired of film reviews being so serious? Don’t care if the latest Adam Sandler flick is “crushingly obvious with its stereotypical roles that prevent any sort of identification”? Wondering if David Stratton will live forever? Love James Mathison without a results show? Love Yumi Stynes without infomercials? Well The Cheap Seats is the film show for you! The everyday, cinema-going fan and DVD couch addict. The only high brows welcome here are those done by Angelina Jolie’s beautician.

It’s a fresh take on an old format. A light-hearted, irreverent approach to movie-making and film reviewing. It’s informative and insightful but with a twist of crazy. It’s like going to the movies with your buddies and then dissecting it afterwards at dinner. But now your buddies are two awesome hosts James Mathison & Yumi Stynes.

The documentary outlines the sensational and controversial career of AFL superstar player Ben Cousins who from the earliest days seemed bound for glory. A prodigy of sorts – considered a star after his first game – he soon redefined how the game would be played. He was appointed captain of the mightily powerful West Coast Eagles at the uncommonly young age of 21, eventually becoming a Brownlow Medalist and a Premiership player. From the outset he was a natural leader blessed with boyish movie star good looks and charisma. Well groomed and articulate, he quickly became the AFL’s most well-known and most loved players.

Over two nights at Sydney’s grand State Theatre, before a packed audience, many of Australia’s most acclaimed singer/songwriters and musicians came together to perform the songs of Kev Carmody. Kev Carmody’s work draws on a unique life experience, combining both Western and Indigenous literary and spiritual traditions, an eye for historical and political narratives and a willingness to explore the deeply personal. His songs cover Christian theology, black deaths in custody and celebrations of all walks of Australian life. The combination of so many artists from different aesthetic, generational, racial and gender backgrounds, makes this concert the epitome of reconciliation. The fact that Kev is less well known than those paying him tribute gives a sense of mystery to the proceedings. At times intensely intimate, occasionally raucous and loud, this documentary is a joyous celebration of the life and times, the spirit, the songs and the story-telling of Kev Carmody.

At 14, best friends Robb Reiner and Lips made a pact to rock together forever. Their band, Anvil, hailed as the “demi-gods of Canadian metal, ” influenced a musical generation that includes Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, despite never hitting the big time. Following a calamitous European tour, Lips and Robb, now in their fifties, set off to record their 13th album in one last attempt to fulfill their boyhood dreams.
